Fellow friends and colleagues in the video game industry,

our last IGDA Munich Chapter meeting took place on Wednesday, June 3 in the rooms of Chimera Entertainment and the Videospielkultur e.V.  Thanks to middleware developer Trinigy, we were able to serve fresh food and beverages to our guests from all over the game development community.

With about 30 attendants, the event was well visited. The first lecture by Daniel Renner (Artificial Technology) gave an overview on tools, middleware and engines of all pricing ranges for a diversity of tasks. The matter of price was of special interest in the following discussion, nevertheless experiences in matters of middleware were exchanged aswell.

The second lecture by Siavash Sefid-Rodi, a graduate student working on his thesis at Artificial Technology, dealt explicitly with the topic of pathfinding. He detailed the advantages and disadvantages of classical and modern approaches on pathfinding and finally recommended a combination of both.

We received lots of positive feedback and people are looking forward to the next event.

Also, we are still looking for topics for the next IGDA Munich Chapter Meeting and would be glad to receive proposals and lectures. It is anticipated to take place in September, watch out for the notification. We hope to see you soon!

Also, we would like to point out two events that are worth visiting:

The Games Lounge is taking place bi-weekly in the rooms of Chimera Entertainment and the Videospielkultur e.V. It’s offering the opportunity to play games cooperatively in an open group. You will be able to play a game or two from the sizable archive of the VSK and enjoy the evening with nice people and a drink. Please find more information about the VSK and the Games Lounge here: www.videospielkultur.org

The Game Camp Munich 2009 is the first Bar Camp for the German games industry. That means, that the sequence and content of the evening’s proceedings are being selected by the attendants. Moreover there is a Demo Session for developer and student teams and an after show party and networking event. There is free attendance for up to 200 participants. The Game Camp takes place in the rooms of Microsoft in Unterschleißheim. For application and further information please see: www.gamecampmunich.de
